Lumen Law Center's Andi Mazingo to Speak at CELA's 40th Anniversary Employment Law Conference on Bias in AI

We're proud to share that Lumen Law Center founding attorney Andrea (Andi) Mazingo will be a plenary speaker at the California Employment Lawyers Association's 40th Anniversary Employment Law Conference, taking place October 15–17, 2026, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in downtown Los Angeles.

On Thursday, October 15, Andi will present the general session "Bias in AI: Employment Law, DEI Retrenchment, and the Future of Workplace Decision-Making," presented by CELA's Racial Justice Committee. The session will be livestreamed to virtual attendees and qualifies for Technology and Elimination of Bias specialty MCLE credit.

CELA is a statewide organization of more than 1,400 California attorneys who dedicate the major portion of their practices to representing employees — in cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblowing, and unpaid wages. For four decades, its annual conference has been the gathering place for the plaintiffs' employment bar in California, and this milestone year brings together two and a half days of continuing education and community at the heart of it.

Speaking at CELA's 40th is a particular honor. Lumen Law Center's practice is built on the same commitments CELA has advanced since 1986: that workers deserve advocates who take their claims seriously, and that the law is at its best when it holds powerful institutions accountable to the people who build them.

The session topic sits squarely at the intersection of Lumen's work. Our practice centers on representing technology-sector employees — the people who build these systems and are increasingly evaluated, managed, and terminated by them. As algorithmic tools take on a larger role in workplace decision-making just as institutional DEI commitments retrench, the question of who bears the burden when those systems encode bias is becoming one of the defining employment law questions of the next decade.
